About

The Mandi Borer Foundation was created in memory of Amanda Gene “Mandi” Borer (1985–2020)—a talented artist, designer, and deeply caring community member whose life centered on family, creativity, and inclusion. Mandi passed away on November 16, 2020, at the age of 35.

Born in Findlay, Ohio, Mandi was the daughter of Gary and Cathy (Miles) Stephens. She graduated from Van Buren High School and went on to earn her degree from The Ohio State University in 2007. In her professional life, she worked as a freelance designer and served as a marketing manager—bringing her creativity and leadership to everything she touched.

Mandi’s heart for others showed up most powerfully in the way she supported people with disabilities. She loved working with special needs children and adults and proudly volunteered as a Special Olympics softball coach. She was also fluent in American Sign Language, and one of her most memorable moments was signing the National Anthem at the OSU–Michigan game—an expression of her belief that everyone should be included and celebrated.

Mandi and her husband, Phil, met while she was working in Columbus in 2012 and married on August 22, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Together they built a life rooted in love, family, and community, raising their daughter Collins Irene in Tiffin. Mandi cherished time outdoors and with the people she loved—camping trips, lake weekends, Mohican adventures, and gatherings that turned ordinary nights into lifelong memories. She also adored her dogs, Clover “Tootsie” and Kosar.

Today, the foundation exists to carry forward Mandi’s spirit of generosity and inclusion. Through community partnerships and fundraising events, we support causes close to her heart—especially Special Olympics of Ohio—and help grow impact for years to come.

If you’re here, you’re part of that mission. Thank you for helping us keep Mandi’s light shining.
